Here are more photographs of shooting with the performer walking through the Australian landscape in a beautiful white dress. It was an awesome experience and heaps of fun to shoot. I love how picturesque the shots and photos look. I guess another inspiration is the music video for Kate Bush in the song ‘Wuthering Heights’. Kate Bush looked fabulous in her red dress while dancing in the forest. I find Bush a unique artist with a powerful voice, I certainly think my performer is a great talent and I am trying to express that energy visually.
I really think what I am working on could develop and help me grow as a director and an editor. I feel that the performer I am working with could be the next Kate Miller-Heidke or Kate Bush. Mainly because she is a unique artist. Part of my inspiration is the music video for Kate Miller-Heidke’s song called “The Last Day On Earth”. Which is a beautiful apocalyptic type of love song. I find the lyrics and the music so powerful. The lighting and concept is beautiful, classic and elegant. The DOP is John Brawley who was a student at AFTRS. It is work like this that inspires and pushes me to continue and express my ideas.
I was helping out with set design for the scenes of Tom Rhor’s major project Fierce. I have read the script and I found that the characters were awesome and dynamic. It seems like a really fun project to be apart of. The scenes consist of interviews with the main characters as they discuss how they became models. Watching the actors was amazing, they are all so good and they gave powerful performances. The set looked great, we put up fashion posters, got some plants to give it an office feel and made it look like a fashion agency. Also the photo shoot had that real fashion feel which is what the scene needed. So far I think Fabio is my favourite character mainly because he is so committed to the fashion industry. I also took stills of the actors and behind the scenes shots of the set, with the crew on the production. It felt so natural to have a SLR in my hands, just like old times. It was a great experience and a pleasure to be apart of the project.
I have decided to incorporate a yellow theme since the song is about how a strong bright person in someone’s life. I was inspired to use the colour yellow as theme as it captures the energy of idea. Part of the idea came from the Three Colours: Blue, Three Colours: White, and Three Colours: Red films directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski. I want the audience to have a bright, bubbly, and fresh feeling from watching the music video. Here is a still from the shoot:
I got the chance to experience what is like to be an extra. I went to help out in a scene along with other students from AFTRS in Tim and Albert’s AFTRSH major project. I got to clap, cheer, toast, chat, laugh and hang out with the main characters and the crew of AFTRSH. It was a fun experience and I was happy to help out.
So far I have been busy shooting and editing the footage. Here are the photos from behind the scenes on the music video I am directing called Sunshine. They are from day one. We have the performer singing and playing piano to the track in the studio. I have experience in working on photo shoots. What is different about this project is that there is so much layers and dynamic was to express the concept. This has been so much fun to work on. I am enjoying the experience of visually experimenting with the rhythm and lyrics of the song.
Last night I was in the studio during the show Q&A on ABC. I found it an interesting experience as I have never been in a live studio audience before. I gained alot from watching the crew and listening to the questions asked by the audience. I even appeared on television! The panelists for the show were:
Craig Emerson - Minister for Small Business
Christopher Pyne - Shadow Minister for Education, Apprenticeships and Training
Just an update about my major music video project for foundation. Going well at the moment. Test shooting in progress. I am enjoying becoming familiar with the song and working with the performer. It was an exciting process shooting and recording a fresh new sound. Here is a still from my work:
This was an awesome event that I went to at the MCA as part of the VIVID Sydney Festival. It brought back so many memories of films and TV shows such as Hey Dad and also my fav songs I am a massive 80s fan so I was grooving to the beat. It was amazing to be apart of something that is important to our history, childhood, culture and our identity. Here is a video taken during the event I appear twice in it, I am sitting in the front row but the footage is only shown for a few seconds awwww. Oh well I plan to go to more of these events in festival and I urge you all too as well.
This morning we did some exercises in pitching projects for films. Getting together in groups and giving a like a mock presentation. Our group choose Star Wars underwater and it was all Episode Seven – The Return of Darth Vader. It’s set in an future underwater world where there are laser sharks. Darth Vader lives with Luke and The Sith are still in existence and they are encouraging Vader and Luke to join The Sith. Leia and Han Solo are now married but they are on the brink of having a divorce and also chewbaca comes to visit.
