I was interviewed live last Sunday morning on FBI Radio on the Canvas program with Matt Levinson. Matt interviewed my about my claymation film Kaos in King Street. He asked me questions about the stop motion process and a little bit about the artists involved. I got to beatbox live on air also.

New and improved Lopez Records

by Lc Beats on Oct.23, 2009, under Uncategorized

DSC01276Lopez Records, which used to be located though a dark corridor next to Oxford Art Factory has moved up Oxford Street about 100m towards Paddington. The new location is roadside bringing a broader audience to the shop. It’s focus is purely on hip hop.

It’s big too, which is dope. Lopez stocks T Shirts, paint, records, cds, Dvds (Mayhem in May Lane) and other 5 Element hip hop supplies.

Last night I was there watching Mystery paint his characters on the back wall.

On the shop walls there are pieces by Atome, Unique and Brick.

I went in today and gave Dicee 3 Mayhem in May Lane Dvds, hoping they sell.

I’m looking forward to tommorrow’s in store gig.

AFTRS MAJOR WORK PROGRESS- A FEW YEARS BACK

by Lc Beats on Oct.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

My major work, which is two parts is mostly complete. I mean it’s mostly edited. It just needs a few tweeks here and there.

One part of my Aftrs major work is a 1 minute hip hop film clip called A Few Years Back. It features two brothers Stress and JackHammer, who are both good friends of mine.

DSC00841

The film clip’s theme is primary/high school days, hence the title A Few Years Back.

The clip starts off looking dull, poorly lit, the two brothers sit next to each other on a couch and reminisce about their school days. When the verse starts, the two of them are at school dressed in school uniforms (white collared shirt and short stubbie blue shorts) on a nice hot sunny day.

DSC00826

To keep the hip hop element to the clip, they’re both wearing sneakers and a hat. Stress particularly with a Kangol.

The shoot went well, with no dramas. We managed to shoot it all in one day on a Sunday, so there were no disturbances. The weather was good and the grounds were perfect.

I had my buskers amplifier connected to an Ipod to play the track. I had the volume up quite loud so that the Mc’s could feel free to go hard out on their verses. Other times when we rehearsed the clip, I had the track playing through my laptop and the speakers weren’t loud enough so Stress had to limit his voice to hear the track.

It was good having the buskers amp, ‘cos it was easy to carry around.

The track A Few Years Back was recorded at Stress’s padded lab (studio) with Pro- Tools in his recording booth. He also made the beat in his midi sampling pad working with ableton.

I think the props made it look authentic and gave the whole school feel to it. We had things like rubbish (chip packets, lollies, lunch box, school bag, balls and a red kids boombox which you only notice if you look hard. It’s in every shot. Either one of the brothers is holding it or it’s beside them in different shots.

I hope you’ll enjoy the clip and want to see more video clips and listen to their music.

I can’t wait for it to be shown on the big screen at the Aftrs Theatre.

NAS + CHALI 2NA + QBERT & MC SUPERNATURAL (Battle Set)

by Lc Beats on Oct.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

Got my tickets to go see Nas. Bit spewing that I got second release. Can’t wait to see Supernatural rip it up, one of the best freestyle Mc’s in the world, with Q- Bert on decks scratching it up.

Gonna go off at Enmore 31st October. 7pm Start.

Gunna kill the Cyphers outside.

Nas – the undisputed king of east coast hip hop, unlike so many of his contemporaries that reached real success, has maintained a street level, tru school consciousness, while at the same time reaching the pinnacle of global hip hop stardom. Beginning with his classic debut, Illmatic (1994), Nas stood tall for years as one of New York City’s leading rap voices, outspokenly expressing a righteous, self-empowered presence that endeared him to critics and hip-hop purists.

Teazer Solo Show at Oh Really

by Lc Beats on Oct.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

TEAZER ‘AVANT GARDE’ – SOLO SHOW

sign1

THURSDAY OCTOBER 29 – NOVEMBER 5th

If you’re the adventurous type, wandering through Sydney’s inner city or the eastern suburbs, you’ve probably wandered past Teazer.

Graffiti writer and artist Teazer has been sharing his work in the streets and creating public murals prolifically for the last few years. Teazer’s work ranges from tight pieces to manga characters and portraits from photos.  Everything is a remix. Magazines, music, skate art and Coco Pops boxes, mixed with graffiti lettering, stencils and street signs. Teazer’s work provokes with the idea that nothing is an original thought and that so much of our lives are consumed with media.

Teazer grew up in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and inner city, skating, sneaking out at night and being rebellious. He has been writing since 1989, influenced by what he saw in Bondi and images from the New York subway art that had just started at the time, he says something about it made him feel alive. Teazer developed his own style, sharp aggressive letters that can stand up for themselves and make a statement on their own.

Like his street work, Teazer’s artwork utilises different techniques for board, canvas or found objects. The technique isn’t as important as the look of the final work, whether freehand or taped, it has to be clean, handmade and finished to Teazer’s standards of precision.

Teazer’s new solo show explores the last few years of his work on the street and mixes it up. The show opens 6pm on Thursday 29th October at Oh Really Gallery, 55 Enmore Road, Newtown.

Teazer Solo Show

6 – 9pm, Thurs 29th October

Oh Really Gallery,

55 Enmore Road, Newtown.

I’m hopefully going to put a collab piece in.
